HOPKINS DISTRICT LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES

MAY 14TH, 2013

 Present:  Suzanne Antvelink , Natalie Bazan,  Karon Dunifin, Lynn Francis, Anita Kerber, Chris Navis

 Absent:  Mimi Gabriel, Dave Klink, Barb Wrobleski

1. Meeting called to order at 7 p.m.

2. Roll Call.

3. Agenda approved.

4. Minutes from April 9th meeting- moved by Anita and Suzanne supported. Approved.

5. Treasurer’s Reports – Monthly reports from Jan.2013 through April 2013 were received and reviewed. Moved by Suzanne and supported by Lynn to accept.  Accepted.  Approval given to Natalie to spend money for programs/SRC and then be reimbursed with grant money awarded for that purpose.

6. Correspondence- none.

7. Public Comment-none.

8. Director’s Report

     Programs

·         Sticks & Strings group  meeting 3rd Monday of the month

·         Coups for Troops

·         April Fool’s Day pranks

·         Old School Games

·         Preschool Super Hero Reads

·         Seeds Class

·         Friends Group Meeting

·         World Book Night for 2014-Natalie will notify board for next year’s participation

·         Fused glass flowers

·         Mother’s Day Kids Camp

·         Gorilla Gardening- sign up for a Gorilla Garden/pick up plants on Sat., May 18, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

·         Fan Blade Dragonflies-May 29

·         Craft Sale on July 4th – monies/donations to go to foodbank and library

·         Prep work for SRC programs-items coming in

9. Publicity

    Up to 105 “likes” on Facebook; gift baskets for parents if up to 150 “likes” a possibility?  Newsletter      

    for June, July, and August coming out next week-waiting for some dates.

10. Meetings, workshops, etc.

      Advisory Meeting, Township Meetings, PPS Meeting, ALA 2013 Annual Meeting, 4th of July Com-

      mittee Meeting, July 22 “Like” thank you party.

11. Building issues

       Broken door-waiting for Jim (busy time for him)

       Sign-waiting for Buist to electrify

       Telephone issues-switching to Charter in June for phone

       Computer installation issues due to Lakeland

12. Budget Issues-none.

13. Library Closings-Memorial Day (May 25th and May 27th)

14. Volunteers- 22 people signed up for Friends of the Library group; their next meeting still un-

       scheduled; donated books still coming in; Girl Scouts for the Mother’s Day Kids Camp.

15. Lakeland, State, other library news-none.

16. Patron Comments and Suggestions-continued book suggestions, looking for ideas for programs

       (guy programs)

17. Other

·         SRC job app posted and will close in 1 week

·         Won two grants

·         Scheduling self-defense class

·         Scheduling classes for ACCF Legacy grant now through December

·         Asking for updated quotes on replacing furnace/air conditioner

18. Old Business-none.

19. New Business- 50th Anniversary plans; think about ideas; Historical Week suggestion.

20. Public Comment- Weight Watchers’ group possibility

21. Adjournment- Meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
