Hopkins District Library Board Meeting Minutes
August 14, 2012
Present: Suzanne Antvelink, Natalie Bazan, Karon Dunifin, Lynn Francis, Mimi Gabriel, Anita Kerber, David Klink, Chris Navis, Barbara Wrobleski
Absent:
1. Meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM.
2. Roll Call. Lynn Francis was welcomed as the second member representing Hopkins Village.
3. Approval of Agenda
Approved.
4. Approval of Minutes
Approved.
5. Treasurer’s Report
Reviewed report.
Report approved as written.
6. Correspondence
Received thank-you note for glass fusing program. Sent thank-you notes to those who donated for summer reading program.
7. Public Comment
None.
8. Director’s Report
· Programs
o Sticks & Strings group meeting 3rd Monday of the month.
o Book club meeting regularly.
o Coups for Troops (coupon clippers) meeting regularly.
o Game night 1st Monday of every month.
o Computer Basics class last month.
o Arts Alive – voting began June 1st, will continue until September 14. Votes are $1 each. We have 256 votes.
o Makers Camp ending next week.
o Glass fusing very successful, planning to do it again Nov. 10th.
o Cookie swap Dec. 15th.
o Jewelry making Oct. 17th.
o Financial classes Sep.17th Lending & College Prep, Sep. 24th Credit & Budgeting, Oct. 1st Excel.
o Garden art & leaf casting Sep. 26th.
· Publicity
o Up to 60 “likes” on Facebook.
o New logo is on website and will be everywhere.
o Letters to the editor.
o Globe stories.
· Meetings, workshops, etc.
o Advisory Council Meeting (LLC)
o Emerging Leaders Program Orientation meeting.
o Monterey Township meeting.
o Overdrive training.
o Michigan Fiber Fest scholarship classes.
· Building Issues
o Broken door.

· Library Closings
o Labor Day weekend (Sep. 1 - 3).
· Volunteers
o 22 people have signed up for the Friends of the Library group. Next meeting Oct. 8th..
o Friends group has raised $452. Plans include welcome kits and purchase of magazine subscriptions.
o Requesting donations for purchase of trees and wreaths for decorating.
o Donations of books still arriving.
· Lakeland, State, other library news
o None.
· Patron comments and suggestions
o Book suggestions.
· Other
o MLA award – Up and Coming Librarian of the Year received.
o Casino provided funds for programs.
o Applying for two other grants.
o Asking for corporate donations.
o Circulation up 20%.
o Director’s vacation first two weeks of Sep.
o Library Director evaluation forms on website. Evaluation due in October.
o Need budget hearing in September.
o Finance series beginning Sep. 17th.
o Village cleanup Sep. 15th.
o Tire drop-off Sep. 22nd.
o Planning for holiday tree/wreath decoration.

10. New Business
· Director’s evaluation form posted on-line.
· L-4029 form completed.
· CD maturing on August 26th. Mimi made a motion to renew CD amount into new 24 month CD, Anita seconded, motion was approved.
· Lakeland requires that since we are now a district library, we must reapply. Lynn made a motion that we renew with Lakeland, Anita seconded, motion was approved.
