Hopkins District Library Board Meeting Minutes

November 13, 2012

Present:  Suzanne Antvelink, Natalie Bazan, Mimi Gabriel, Anita Kerber, Chris Navis, Barbara Wrobleski

Absent:  Karon Dunifin, Lynn Francis, David Klink

1.      Meeting was called to order at 7:15PM

2.      Roll Call

3.      Approval of Agenda – approved

4.      Approval of Minutes – approved

5.      Treasurer’s Report – reviewed and approved as written

(Note:  RFP’s are being called for from several auditors.  First quote was for $2,000)

6.      Correspondence – none

7.      Public Comment – none

8.      Director’s Report:

Sticks & Strings Group meets 3rd Monday of the month; book club; Coups for Troops (coupon clippers), Jewelry Making class (success, will do again); Halloween candy check at the library with cookies & cider; Christmas ornament extravaganza (2 classes of 1st Graders and community later in the evening); Glass fused suncatchers, Part II (free to ages 10 – 18 in our district, $15 to everyone else); Holiday Stories will take place in December.

Publicity:  up to 70 “Likes” on Facebook, articles in the Globe, school newsletter, posters around town.

Meetings, workshops, etc.:  Michigan Library Association Annual Conference (Nov. 7 – 9), Advisory Meeting, Township meetings, PPS Meeting, Summer Reading Conference.

Building Issues:  Broken door

Budget Issues:  None

Library Closings:  None

Volunteers:  22 people have signed up for the Friends of the Library group so far and their next meeting is Nov. 12th; donated books are still coming in, Lakeland, State and other library news, none.

Patron Comments & Suggestions:  Continued book suggestions, looking for ideas for programs for men – fly tying, taxidermy, bookmaking.

Other:  Still looking for vendors for the Winter Bazaar, sending some books/audio books to the Heritage for the Blind (free shipping).

Old Business:  Board approved free non-resident cards for teachers and a suggestion box at school.

New Business:  Next year’s audit – RFP’s will be asked for, State Aid Report is done and ready for signatures.  Library tote bags were reviewed.

Next Meeting:  Date has been changed from December 11 to Saturday, December 15th in combination with the Cookie Exchange – 9:30AM
