Hopkins District Library Board Meeting Minutes
May 8, 2012
Present: Suzanne Antvelink, Natalie Bazan, Karon Dunifin, Mimi Gabriel, David Klink
Absent: Anita Kerber, Chris Navis, Barbara Wrobleski
1. Meeting was called to order at 7:06 PM.

3. Approval of Agenda
Approved.
4. Approval of Minutes
Approved.
5. Treasurer’s Report
It was recommended that a column be added to the director’s report to account for additional income generated by grants received. Report was reviewed and approved.
6. Correspondence
Received thank-you card from Sandy Sterns.
7. Public Comment
None.
8. Director’s Report
· Programs
o Fiber group meeting 3rd Monday of the month, includes knitting, crocheting, felting.
o Book club meeting regularly.
o Coupon clippers meeting here.
o Nutrition group met.
o Story hour.
o Starting game night after school program 1st Monday of every month.
o Computer Basics class & Computer Refresher class last month.
o Computer Refresher and Facebook overview planned for this month
o LoC books are being put out, others are coming back from cataloging soon.
o Secret project
o Library will participate in Arts Alive.
o Mother’s Day card creation event coming up.
o Logo contest ending May 31.
o Plant swap and book sale May 12th.
o Finishing up Summer Reading Club program.
o Glass fusing class – participation will be limited.
· Publicity
o Globe stories.
o Up to 41 “likes” on Facebook.
o 20 members of the “friends” group.
o Just joined “four square”.
o 2 new websites: “Sharing Library Ideas” www.sharing.michlibrary.org and “Allegan County Library Association” www.acla.michlibrary.org
o Bookmarks for SRC out to all three schools and at library
o 2nd grade class visiting on May 23rd.
· Meetings, workshops, etc.
o Allegan County Library Association meeting
o MeL database webinars.
o Rural Library conference. HDL “Flowers in February” program was featured.
o May 11th Adult Services Round Table.
o Attending Monterey and Watson township meetings in June.
· Building Issues
o None.
· Budget Issues
o None.
· Library Closings
o Memorial Day weekend (Saturday and Monday).
· Volunteers
o 20+ people have signed up for the Friends of the Library group. Meeting May 7th.
o Donations of books and wool roving for an event later in the year.
o Might have National Honor Society students helping with book sale/plant exchange.
· Lakeland, State, other library news
o None.
· Patron comments and suggestions
o Summer reading club suggestions.
· Other
o Working on completing USF fund applications and getting bids for internet/telecommunications. Library of Michigan will have training on this, June 12th.
o Still looking for more recipes and logos until May 31st.
o Getting quotes for a building repair grant.
o Circulation stats continuing to rise, up 43%.
o We won a grant for programs.
o Friends group got a grant for startup money.
o Will post user guidelines and computer guidelines from manual on website.
o Received QSAC certification.
o Received 40 Park & Read state park passes.
o Will be attending Scholastic book fair.
o Box top collection over summer for schools.
o Working on Book of Hopkins.

· Suzanne made motion to re-affirm Dick Butler as District Library Board millage lawyer, seconded by Mimi. Motion carried.
· Karon made motion to accept resolution for millage proposal as written, seconded by Dave. Motion carried.

12. Meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.
