Friends of the Library

May 7, 2012

We met tonight at 7 pm at the library with the following members present:  Carolyn Nash (President), Sheryl Whipple (VP), Cheryl Selby, Tim Deubner, Sherree O’Connor, Bea Stewart, Gayle Stewart and Marcie Fredricks (Secretary).  Our librarian Natalie was also in attendance.

Old Business:

May 12th : Book Sale during the Hopkins Sale Days.  Runs 10 am – 2 pm.  Natalie needs kids to volunteer to work 2 hour shifts, up to 4 kids per shift.

May 25th  : Yard Bombing downtown Hopkins. This is part of “Arts Alive in Allegan County”. Natalie will put a sign at the corner of 128th/30th to bring people coming for the Antique Market the next day in Allegan. There will be various art around Allegan County that people can go online to vote for. Each vote will cost $1 which goes to the organization plus there is prize money to be won.

July 4th : Various things going on during the festivities such as used book sale, cookbooks will be ready to sell, various kids activities like face painting & kids tattoos. Sheryl Whipple will be our committee head for the 4th.

Cookbooks: Natalie asked if the committee would like to share the cost & the profit for the cookbooks with the library.  There was talk of laminating the covers or at least using glossy cardstock.  The cover will display the logo contest winner.  There will be 100 copies printed, it will contain about 60 recipes & they will be half sheet size.

New Business:

Summer Reading Club starts June 11, 2012.  Projects include paper making, felted beads, paper Mache, a pet show, & bracelet making among others.

Letters to the Editors: Natalie asked for volunteers to write letters on behalf of the library to the Pennessee Globe & possibly the Allegan County News to encourage people to vote yes for the millage August 7.  Cheryl Selby will write in early June, Bea at the end of June, & Carolyn in July. This will keep our library as part of the district which can provide more services.

Announcements

“Coupon Clippers Group” named “Coups for Troops” meets at the library the 1st Monday of each month 1:30 – 3:30 pm. A poster will be put up in the library & a box for drop offs. They collect coupons up to 6 months expired to send to military families overseas.

Sherree suggested: “New Baby” book bags that can be put together & given out to area families that have a new baby.  She will put together her ideas, talk to some people & bring it back next month.

Carolyn motioned to adjourn and Sheryl Whipple seconded.  Our next meeting is Monday June 4, 2012 at 7 pm at the library.
